PloxOS

The software that keeps the room playing.

PloxOS runs on the Plox Cube and in every phone's browser. It is the quiet part that makes the WiFi, holds the lobby, keeps the scores and moves a game to another phone when one leaves.

On the Cube

The host

  • The network

Makes the Cube's WiFi and opens the lobby on every phone that joins.

  • The lobby

Knows who is playing, who is hosting and keeps your place if your phone locks.

  • The scores

Keeps the evening's scoreboard and the official state of every game.

On the phones

The players

  • In the browser

No app to install. Join the WiFi and PloxOS opens on its own.

  • Runs the game

One phone runs the game's rules in the background while it plays.

  • Your own screen

Every phone draws the game for its player, with big buttons and clear type.

Carries on

When a phone leaves, the game moves.

Phones take calls, run flat and lock their screens. PloxOS is built for that. The game is never stuck on one phone.
  1. 0s

    Playing

Sam's phone is running the game.

  2. Every 2s

    Saved

The Cube keeps a copy of where things stand.

  3. Sam leaves

    Moving

The Cube hands the game to the next phone.

  4. A moment later

    Carrying on

Play picks up from the last save.

Updates when you say

When the Cube is online it checks for a new PloxOS. It always asks first, and the light glows orange while it installs.

New games, no new box

Games are separate from PloxOS. New games and game updates arrive as downloads, so the Cube keeps getting better.

Local first

No account is needed to play, and the games themselves run entirely in the room, on the Cube and the phones.

Private cards stay private

Games can send things to one phone only, like your hand in Texas Hold'em. Nobody else's screen shows it.
