Inside PLOX

Why the Cube makes its own WiFi

No router, no passwords to hunt for, no internet needed. A short note on why we built PLOX to work offline first.

Think about the places people actually get together: a caravan, a holiday cottage, a garden, the back of a long car journey, a campsite. The WiFi is patchy or missing, and nobody wants to spend the first twenty minutes reading a router password off a sticker.

So the Plox Cube Go brings its own. Switch it on and it makes a WiFi network. Phones join it like any other network, the lobby opens in the browser, and you are playing. There is no app to install and nothing to sign up for.

What the internet adds

The internet is optional. When the Cube can reach it, it adds the extras: your account at myplox.com, the game store, downloads and updates to PloxOS. None of that is needed to play the games already on your Cube.

What stays in the room

  • The lobby, the scores and the games live on the Cube.
  • Games run on the phones, so the Cube stays small and simple.
  • If the phone running a game leaves, another phone carries it on from where it was.
The best game night is the one that starts straight away. Everything we build starts from that.
